The fund was established by the Foundation in 2019, to support student involvement in both formal and informal learning opportunities related to the key pillars of Sustainability.  This effort helps position FIT graduates as global changemakers within the fashion and creative industries. 

FIT has always been ahead of the curve in fostering creativity, career focus, and a global perspective in its students towards sustainability. This institution held its first Sustainable Business and Design Conference 20 years ago - a formal effort to prioritize this core issue and focus on developing student, faculty, and industry knowledge of the key pillars of sustainability. These pillars have been and are being embedded not just into the curriculum, but woven into the very fabric of the school itself.

Behind the scenes, FIT has been making real changes—reducing carbon emissions by 65%, integrating green roofs and solar arrays, committing to LEED-certified construction projects, and developing energy-efficient infrastructure. These aren’t just symbolic gestures; they are tangible steps toward creating a responsible, forward-thinking institution.

This fund supports opportunities for FIT students - who are future leaders in the fashion industry to learn and embrace work directly connected to sustainability and innovation.   With your support, they have the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research on new biomaterials with textile applications and work with current industry leaders on developing a pathway for change that has a global impact.
